Higher Education Authority (HEA)
North South Research Programme (NSRP)

The SLSS Hub is funded by the North South Research Programme (NSRP) Strand II over a four-year period (2022-2026). The NSRP supports collaborative basic and strategic research, innovation and development on a cross-border basis.
The Higher Education Authority manages the NSRP as part of the Shared Island Initiative.

The SLSS Research Hub aligns with the HEA’s vision for excellence and innovation in research, translating insights into real world solutions.
Through this collaborative approach, the Hub aims to:
- Strengthen research practices, innovation and development in institutions and youth justice, through the access to contemporary, cutting edge and cross border data and insights.
- Enhance collaboration with UL, QUB, and CES, networks of excellence and scalable partnerships to address real world need and pioneer
novel, evidence-informed methods for contributing to social transformation.
Project Advisory Group
Youth Justice Sub-group (PAG)
The Stable Lives Safer Streets Research Hub is aligned with the Project Advisory Group (PAG). The PAG consists of senior policy officials from the Departments of Justice, Criminal Justice Agencies, and Policing in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
They contribute to the coherent implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and a shared island approach to criminal justice. In addition to HEA accountability, the PAG acts as commissioners for the Hub’s activities, supporting implementation and dissemination.
The diagram illustrates the SLSS’s participatory and iterative approach to research. The scientific team consults with the PAG to develop relevant, discrete work programmes. The researchers engage with frontline practitioners and communities to understand challenges and develop locality-based responses alongside responses at regional and cross-border levels. These processes contribute to acquiring and sharing new knowledge, which is fed back to the PAG.

The Hub will address the strategic challenge of youth crime and paramilitarism. The Hub’s relationship with PAG allows for a strategic dialogue on youth crime and the ready absorption of research evidence into policy and practice.
