Orlaith's Biography

Orlaith Rice holds a BA in criminology from University College Cork and an MSc in criminology and criminal justice from University College Dublin. She will shortly complete a PhD in law from University College Dublin. Her doctoral thesis investigates democratic decay in Sweden, looking particularly at the concept of crimmigration and the parallels between right-wing populism and penal populism. Her other research interests include youth justice and penology. She has worked as a research assistant across multiple criminal justice projects since 2020.
